I was very young obviously when I did these. Some are from my first diary i ever had. It was actually given to me as a sketchbook. It turned out to be both.
On the inside cover, it said: "February 1988, for Molly Katherine, this is a special book for you to draw and color and keep your pictures all together. happy birthday, from dad and rebeccah." I wasn't given it until later, because in 1988 I was 3 years old! It was a blank book, which was to me a foreign concept. I was still learning to spell 3 letter words. I was 6 or 7 when I got it I think. My parents divorced when I was a baby, so I really didn't care I never saw my dad. But this book I did love to draw and color in, but it was also my first diary because my Grandma told me it was a diary. I didn't know what the inside said until I was old enough to read script.

I loved to draw mermaids since the little mermaid was my idol when I was a kid. |

When I was a kid I watched 80s sitcoms and liked Saved by the Bell. I think her fashion and age reflects that. I remember thinking it was a victory to draw a girl who did not have a mermaid fishtail and fins. :) |

I had a black, gray, and white cat named Candy when i was a kid and I have always loved cats. I drew this in kindergarten. I have a lot of old sjournals and pictures from when I was a kid and reading it and looking at it always makes me laugh. Sometimes I notice something twisted and odd about my perspective on the world that was reflected through my art and writing as a child, sometimes I read what I wrote and wonder why I did not become a comedian...kids say(and draw) the darndest things. |
